Welcome to the Black Horse Inn
Whether you live round the corner or you’ve travelled miles to find us, The Black Horse offers everything you could want from a village pub – a warm welcome, a gorgeous building with bags of character, top quality food and drink, lovely rooms for an overnight stay, and a real community feel.
We believe a good pub should ‘think local’, and whether that’s by serving the community - hosting the village pool competition for example – or by serving up the very best in local produce, that’s what we aim to do.
Both at our bar and in our restaurant, our food showcases the abundance of great ingredients available almost on our doorstep. Nowhere more so than with our popular Speciality Boards – wooden blocks topped with a selection of the very best local produce, from house-cured salmon to fine British cheeses, or even our homemade scotch eggs.
With a background that includes the renowned Seaham Hall, chef Paul Waugh has developed our menu in consultation with widely-acclaimed Yorkshire chef Jeff Baker of J Baker's in York.
By taking a confident approach to classic British dishes, from Yorkshire puddings to shepherd’s pie. Paul and his team create wonderfully rustic dishes that are just as big on finesse as they are on flavour.
And because of our prices, you won’t have to empty your wallet just to fill your belly.
